I guess you could regard this as a form of street photography but really it’s positioning yourself in one spot and watching the world go by.
The great British weather might be somewhat unpredictable but at least we have had a few days of lovely summery weather already this year.
For this challenge find somewhere which is a good people watching spot, a park bench or outside a cafe.
Enjoy a nice coffee and see what passes you by!
This is also really good at public events but be weary that some folk don’t like having their picture taken.
It might not be illegal to take someone’s picture in a public place where there is no expectation of privacy but it doesn’t hurt to be subtle. If people ask what you are doing or why you are taking pictures them let them know about this blog series!
If you are photographing on private property like a train station in inside a cafe you do require the permission of the business owner to take pictures.
The French have very different rules about this sort of thing so just be weary of that if you’re planning on hoping on the EuroStar for a Paris street photography adventure!
This weekly photo challenge is designed to complement our photography basics section the London Mums website. Each week we will set a different theme and your homework is to go out and photograph a collection of images related to that theme.
You can start this challenge whenever you like and do the different themes in any order you see fit. Think of these challenges as a photography workout. Don’t just do them once and not revisit them. If you do start these challenges as you begin our online basics classes then in a few months why not revisit older challenges to see how much better a photographer you have become.
Also try and think outside the box as much as possible. Photography is as much about creative interpretation as it is about technical prowess.
