The arrival on the big screen of a much-loved TV series often provokes mixed reactions. Concern that it won’t match up to the original. Or, if it’s got a great cast and the trailer looks promising, excitement at the prospect.
The latest cinema version of classic comedy Dad’s Army opens in cinemas this Friday, 5 February 2016. And it certainly has a great cast. But is it a fitting tribute to one of television’s favourite comedies? London Mums’ resident film critic, Freda Cooper, tries not to panic …….

Remember the days of the epic film? When they were so long they needed an intermission half way through? If you do – and even if you don’t – this week gives you an all-too-rare opportunity to experience it all over again or for the first time. One of the most romantic of large scale films celebrates its half century by returning to the big screen in a newly re-mastered print. David Lean’s Doctor Zhivago, certificate PG, is re-released on Friday, as well as being part of the BFI’s LOVE season on Southbank.
