It’s a fine old tradition among us film critics that at the end of the year we look back at the films from the past twelve months and pick our favourites. Not be left out, that’s exactly what I’m going to do now, but with a slight twist. I’m only choosing from the films I’ve reviewed here on London Mums during 2014.
Rather than give you a long list of ten, I’ve narrowed the best of the year down to five. And a diverse lot they are too.

If yet another film in 3-D makes you positively groan at the thought of those clunky glasses slipping down your nose, then here’s some great news. Not about the glasses, sadly, but at long last there’s a film that makes putting up with them more than worthwhile.
T S Spivet was released on Friday, 13 June 2014. Not that it’s an omen. Far from it. This is the captivating story of T S (Kyle Catlett), who lives on remote Montana ranch with his older sister, twin brother, scientist mother (Helena Bonham Carter) and strong but silent cowboy father (Callum Keith Rennie).
