The 2016 awards season seems to have been going on for ever, but the end is in sight. The Oscars take place at the end of the month, but first come the BAFTAs, on Sunday evening. London Mums’ resident film critic, Freda Cooper, gets out her crystal ball to find out who’ll be feeling the love on Valentine’s Day – and who’ll be left out on the cold.

It’s tradition. Turkey, pudding – and a look back at the best films of the year. And who am I to do otherwise?
For my top five this year, I’ve set two rules. I’m only choosing from films that have been released in UK cinemas during 2015 (so, for instance, the ones I saw at the London Film Festival but which haven’t been given a general distribution aren’t in contention) and I’m only including movies which I’ve reviewed for London Mums.
Film Review: Carol

The awards season doesn’t fully get under way for another couple of months, but the buzz has already started. One of the films attracting a lot of attention is Todd Haynes’ Carol, released on Friday, certificate 15. A romance between two women set in 1950s America, it’s already scooped a couple of awards at Cannes and looks destined to add to its collection.
