Film Review: Freeheld

With the BAFTA red carpet rolled up and put away for another year, it’s the time of year when some of the smaller films get their moment in the limelight. It doesn’t necessarily mean more of them in cinemas, but with many of them available online they can reach a much bigger audience.

One such film is Freeheld. With an Oscar winner at the head of its cast, it’s surprisingly destined for just a handful of cinemas. London Mums’ resident film critic, Freda Cooper, finds out whether, in this case, small really is beautiful.

This Week’s Movie News From Talking Pictures

It’s smaller films to the fore on this week’s Talking Pictures, which is out  now!  There isn’t a blockbuster in sight, but you’ll be able to find the new releases in London cinemas.

Out this week is Life, which traces a couple of months in the life of cinema icon, James Dean.  Michael Shannon is the estate agent you love to hate in recession-set 99 Homes, and there’s emotional drama Mia Madre.  On DVD, Samuel L Jackson stars as the US President in Big Game and there’s hard hitting British coming of age movie, The Goob.
