Film Review: Money Monster

Hollywood royalty is out in force in cinemas.  Meryl Streep arrived as Florence Foster Jenkins at the start of the month, last week Tom Hanks was in the Arabian desert to deliver A Hologram For The King and now no less than George Clooney and Julia Roberts confront a hostage-taker in this week’s Money Monster (released this Friday, 27 May, certificate 15).

You wait years for a film about a woman who couldn’t sing in tune and then, just like London buses, two come along almost simultaneously. French offering, Marguerite, opened around six weeks ago and was based on the story of Florence Foster Jenkins. Now the movie bearing her name arrives in cinemas this Friday, 8 May, certificate 12A.

London celebrates the Suffragettes

Amid public controversy, the release of the wonderful Suffragette movie has stimulated mass curiosity for the historical events behind the Suffragettes movement led by Lady Emmeline Pankhurst and more generally for women’s fight for equality. This is a topic that has always interested me personally and I am happy to have finally found a book that has all the answers to my questions, March Women March by Lucinda Hawksley. This is a very inspiring story told in a modern way that allows us to enjoy important historical facts in a way that we have never experienced before. Considering it is filled with details, names and dates, it is really a very pleasant read. To celebrate the launch of Suffragette, Conrad London St. James is offering a rare and wonderful opportunity to meet with and listen to Lucinda Hawksley and special guest Dr. Helen Pankhurst on Thursday 29th October 2015 at 6pm.

Meryl Streep talks equality at Suffragette press conference

Before Suffragette officially opened the London Film Festival on Wednesday night  – and demonstrators invaded the red carpet in a move that would probably have had the original suffragettes cheering – London Mums’ film critic, Freda Cooper, raced across town from the official media screening to the film’s press conference.  All to be in the presence of a screen legend.
