Film Review: The Choir

Dustin Hoffman’s interest in music – he learnt piano as a child – has come to the fore in recent years. His first outing as a feature film director, Quartet (2012) was set in a retirement home for musicians. In The Choir, which is released on Friday, certificate PG, he’s back in front of the camera, playing a maestro in charge of highly esteemed group of young singers. But London Mums’ film critic, Freda Cooper, is convinced she’s seen this story before – and only a few months ago.

After all the build-up, the main event is nearly here.  The Oscars will be handed out in the early hours of Monday morning and, with the votes well and truly in, the only thing left to do now is speculate.

Awards: BAFTA predictions

The stars will be out in force this Sunday for the British film industry’s big night out.  The BAFTA film awards is often seen as a predictor for the Oscars and, as the American Academy members still have over ten days to make their choices, they may have some influence.
