When life hands you lemons, turn them into minions. The Minions movie in 2015 which separated the wholesome hoard from Gru was entertaining and allowed them to shine in their own light, having deservedly stolen the show in the Despicable Me films.
There’s a satisfaction in this latest film of seeing them reunited, or perhaps pre-united, and the writers nicely balance the ingredients of their loyal, not too bright, henchmen support with the charmingly fractious junior Gru. Minions – The Rise Of Gru lands in cinemas on 1st July 2022.

If you’ve ever wondered what the furry – or feathered – members of the family get up to once you’ve shut the door, the latest from the people who brought us Despicable Me and Minions reckon they’ve uncovered the answer. The Secret Life Of Pets, released Friday, 24 June, certificate U, treads a similar path as recent TV documentaries, but this time in animation.

The holidays may not start for another couple of weeks, but it’s summer already at the cinema and the first of the family blockbusters has arrived. Minions, which is released on Friday, 26 June, certificate U, puts Gru’s little yellow helpers from the Despicable Me series well and truly in the spotlight. But how will they fare without their dastardly master? Banana in hand, London Mums’ film critic, Freda Cooper, follows their odyssey.

Here’s one trailer that simply couldn’t wait! Minions doesn’t hit the UK until June of next year, but this first look at the world according to the adorable little yellow creatures from Despicable Me is an absolute must-see.
There’s no Gru this time, so the babbling critters get all the limelight. And if the movie turns out to be as funny as the trailer, we’re in for a treat next summer!
