Cate Blanchett interviewed on Talking Pictures

Weeks don’t get much bigger at the cinema!  There’s a deluge of great new releases this week and, if you can’t decide what to see, then let Talking Pictures do it for you.

There’s romantic drama, Carol: its star, Cate Blanchett, is the subject of this week’s Big Interview.  Johnny Depp abandons Captain Jack Sparrow to play real-life gangster, Whitey Bulger, in Black Mass.  The epic Doctor Zhivago is back in cinemas to celebrate its 50th anniversary re-release and, finally, Disney Pixar’s “dinosaur western”, The Good Dinosaur, rides into town.

Film Review: Doctor Zhivago

Remember the days of the epic film?  When they were so long they needed an intermission half way through?  If you do – and even if you don’t – this week gives you an all-too-rare opportunity to experience it all over again or for the first time.  One of the most romantic of large scale films celebrates its half century by returning to the big screen in a newly re-mastered print.  David Lean’s Doctor Zhivago, certificate PG, is re-released on Friday, as well as being part of the BFI’s LOVE season on Southbank.

Film Review: Brooklyn

November looks like being nostalgia month.  There’s re-issues of weepies Brief Encounter and Doctor Zhivago, as well as new arrivals The Dressmaker and Bridge Of Spies, but ahead of them all comes the adaptation of Colm Toibin’s best seller, Brooklyn.  London Mums’ resident film critic, Freda Cooper, took the journey to see how well it made the leap from page to screen.
