Being a mum in London, I’ve found I’m on a constant search for events, and spoilt for choice most days, with activities happening in local libraries, churches and children’s centres. But as a new mum with a rapidly growing son, I find we’re both up for something a bit different, and I love finding those regular events that take something interactive and leave us both feeling we’ve achieved something before our day has even started! That’s why I’m delighted to be involved in the Royal Albert Hall’s new Storytelling and Music sessions for 0-4 year olds.

Divorce Can Be A Positive Experience

Times have changed and the old fashioned view that a marriage will last forever has to fade. Britain has the highest divorce rate in Europe with 42% of first marriages ending in divorce. If we do achieve the fairy tale of happy ever after that is fast becoming the exception rather than the rule.

It is often said that divorce is the 2nd most traumatic experience after loss of a loved one. The divorce journey is a rollercoaster of emotions and a minefield of unknowns. Having been through my own divorce I am fully aware of how it can hit you like a freight train and leave you feeling overwhelmed and unable to move forward.

I’m a novelist & journalist…I’m also a mum. And I have to say that the way mothers are portrayed in fiction DRIVES ME NUTS.

Think about the books you’ve read which focus on being a mother…it’s all about the hard work, the difficulties, the mess and the way in which your life is taken away from you.

Have you ever wondered why some children can concentrate and finish their homework on time, while others need to be chased around the room?

In the last ten to twelve years, neuro-scientists and psychologists have made advancements in this area of brain research and we now know that this inability to concentrate is called “Working Memory Deficit”.
