It took a while, but eventually the film industry woke up to the potential of the grey pound and up popped films aimed specifically at older cinema goers. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was easily the most successful, its sequel wasn’t not far behind, but there were also the likes of Dustin Hoffman’s Quartet and the smaller, but beautifully formed, 45 Years.
Not that all films with older people in mind enjoy such popularity. So how will the latest, Golden Years, fare when arrives in cinemas this Friday, certificate 12A? London Mums’ film critic Freda Cooper finds out.
