Mother’s Day Gifts Guide

As experts in motherhood, London Mums have put together tips on how you can make the mother figure in your life feel extra special this year. With Mother’s Day fast approaching and thoughts turning to presents that show appreciation we’ve put together a gifting Wishlist.

Ask family members and special friends, young and old, to help create a memory box by making something that shows how they feel about the special person.  So, if you’re the family artist, paint a picture, or if poetry is your thing, write something that captures a special moment or memory, get children and grandchildren involved with crafts, making handprints, taking photos of the session with them. This is the sort of gift that will last a lifetime.

Cooking for mum
As mums are the most involved in making family meals so it would be nice to arrange a family baking or cooking session together – either in person or online or a combination.  Food really can be the way to someone’s heart and as we all spend more time than ever watching cooking themed shows, what better way to celebrate together than creating a delicious treat or meal.  Those far away can take part through video call so you can create a celebratory and truly memorable event across the miles too.

Me time for new hobbies
Sometimes time is the best gift you can give someone. Sign you and your loved one up for a class (online or real life) that you’d both enjoy – flower arranging, cooking, coasteering, crafting, paddle boarding, dancing – whatever you and your mum are into.

The gift of time
Spend time together volunteering at an event or for a local charity.  Sometimes doing things for other people can be the best bonding experience you can have together and can create a special moment for you both.  It’s also a great way to give something back to your local community or to a special cause.

Gardening projects
Tackle a home or garden project together, a job or task that has been on her to do list forever.  Sometimes taking worry or responsibility away from the ones we love can be the best gift of all.  If it’s gardening take the tools, a plan and also a picnic lunch to make it more of an occasion.  If it’s a home decorating task bring style ideas or a mood board and go spend the day creating a plan and completing the task together.

Slippers and loungewear

Bedroom Athletics are my go-to place for comfy slippers and dressing gowns which I use when I want to relax and take time off. My favourite super fluffy, comfy and stylish slippers for this Mother’s day include the new Marilyn and Monroe slippers boots with 20% off for Mother’s Day! They were £25, now down to £20 for Mother’s Day.

These are the original Bedroom Athletic slipper boots! The Marilyn and Monroe boots have a non-slip, durable sole, memory foam footbed and come in a range of stylish colours. You can now machine wash them too (up to 30 degrees). I love the fact that you can give slippers a good wash.

For the eco-conscious there’s also the contemporary Maria Scandi-look Vegan wedge slippers for £25. The contemporary clog design mixes a cool Scandi vibe upper with a vibrant contrasting wedge sole. The felt upper is available in 3 pastel marl shades with a soft faux fur lining and a non-slip sole.

For a more classic look the Molly Sheepskin Mule is available in a multitude of colours for £55.These are premium sheepskin mule slippers in every sense with the softest Grade A double-faced Australian sheepskin inside and out. They come with an oversized button detail and a durable non-slip sole in six gorgeous colours.

Nighwear

The new trend in town is to get matching pyjamas for the whole family. London Mums’ favourite PJ brand is Polarn O. Pyret from Scandinavia. What I like about this range is the quality and the softness of the fabric. After many washes it is always the same. The stripes and springtime shades are gorgeous. The perfect present for escaping to dreamland this Mother’s Day. Made with the softest GOTS organic cotton, little ones aged 1-12 can enjoy getting cosy in the pyjama set and mum can twin in the matching nightdress or trousers/shirt nightwear – perfect for relaxing whilst mum is spoilt on her special day. Did someone say breakfast in bed?
Let’s get matching! The twinning PJs are available from www.polarnopyret.co.uk/collections/adult / www.polarnopyret.co.uk

Food

Why not give the gift of good health this Mother’s Day? Love Yourself is a premium meal delivery service that combines well rounded nutrition and diverse flavours, to make eating healthier, delicious and as easy and convenient as possible. They offer a series of plans from Low Carb and Performance to Pescatarian and ‘Veto’ (vegetarian Keto) that are created by an ex-Michelin Star restaurant chef and qualified nutritionist team, delivered in 95% compostable package and available for nationwide delivery. I have tried this service for four days and I have to say that it has taught me to eat smaller portions and to avoid snacking in-between meals. As an Italian, I am a fan of cooking fresh meals for myself and my family every day, so it felt a luxury to receive cooked meals prepared for me and stored in portions to be opened only at meal times. Love Yourself provides fresh and balanced food which suits my refined palate. So I am impressed and I am happy to shout about it.

José Pizarro Dishpatch ‘finish at home’ kit

Canelones Catalanes

The perfect Mother’s Day treat giving her the night of cooking, José Pizarro’s Dishpatch ‘finish at home’ offering: Catalan Canelones. “Canelón is a traditional Catalan cannelloni which is filled with different meats, then topped with béchamel sauce and baked in the oven,” explains José Pizarro, “we eat it in the winter months because it’s really rich and comforting”. I tried this dish and have to admit that I enjoyed both portions for lunch all by myself. I only knew Italian cannelloni so this was a pleasant ‘discovery’. The dish was very easy to prepare because it was half prepared. It’s perfect if you want to eat at home but having restaurant quality without the effort of cooking at least on Mothering Sunday and in the comfort of your home.

Chocolate

When it comes to chocolate, Guylian  Seashells pralines are lovely (and a bit addictive, in a good way). I particularly love the Belgian chocolates with hazelnut pralinè filling.

Chocolaterie Guylian has an interesting history: it was created in 1967 by Guy & Liliane who joined their names by passion for chocolate and love. They created for the first time chocolate in the shape of seashells and the Sea Horse became the brand’s icon. Today, the Guylian Chocolates are still made with the same craftsmanship and passion to provide the ultimate Belgian Chocolate taste experience for chocolate lovers. Enjoy the finest Belgian Chocolates with 100% pure cocoa butter, filled with Original Pralinè, made with roasted hazelnuts in copper kettles following the original recipe of the founders. Every time you buy Guylian Chocolates you are supporting Project Seahorse, an International Marine Conservation Organisation.

Home decor

I found a Seagrass Mirror at B&M stores. What I love about it is the fact that you can put it anyway you like as it is versatile. I was planning to put it in my bedroom but then I decided it’s perfect in the entry way so i can take a quick look at my make-up before going out. Stunning laid back style large round mirror made from seagrass. Seagrasses are flowering plants that grow under water, their leaves are long and narrow, and they often grow in large “meadows” that resemble grassland, hence their name. A type of cord is twisted from their leaves, which is used in all kinds of objects such as this stunning mirror. Intricately hand crafted and designed with seagrass for a stunning contemporary appearance, this circular shaped mirror is a perfect piece to add a modern ornamental touch to my home décor. RRP £20

Pom Pom Spring Flowers In Vase

Also from B&M stores B&M stores I found these Pom Pom Spring Flowers In Vase for £8 to cheer me up when I’m in my kitchen.

The Diffuser and Candle Set with a spring fragrance inlcuding citrus and vanilla for just £4 is a total bargain. The smell is amazing.
