My 13-year old son loves his Treads school shoes because they are very comfortable but not at the expense of the robustness. He has been using them for a few weeks now and they still look brand new. This is a first! School shoes are put under a huge pressure day in day out. They have to be resilient and they cannot be the cheap from the supermarkets either because the foot health would be compromised.
Treads can get the perfect fit, because you can measure the child’s feet as shown on the website and order the appropriate size.
What I particularly love about the shoes brand Treads is that it was set up by a single dad who understood the financial struggles faced by a single parent and tried to be smart about the choice of clothes and shoes for his children.
When buying school shoes you need to consider the type of shoes required by the school – the requirements can be different and usually specified on the school website (styles can include slip-on, Velcro or lace-ups). If your child runs a lot in the playground or is particularly active at break time, he would need very sturdy shoes for them to last more than 3 months. In terms of material, my first choice is always leather because it lasts longer and is more hygienic too (because it’s natural). It’s really worth investing in good shoes to ensure healthy foot development particularly in the early years.
Treads shoes are robust but also feel light, a feature that allows flexibility and comfort. My teenager is very active and normally very fussy about his shoes. He’s Italian after all and a bit spoilt as I have always bought the best shoes on the market for him since he was a baby (and very early walker at 10 months).
The business owner gives you a 12 Month Indestructible Guarantee which is very reassuring. He is so confident that the shoes are going to last and that he has created a quality product. I like this a lot.
The other feature that I love is the Permair® leather, which means that it is breathable, i.e. it does not make feet sweat and smell.
The reinforced heels are particularly clever because they prevents splitting through stamping, which is typical in boys, for example. Also the shock-absorbing insoles are removable too.
Our favourite models – the ones we have tested – from the Thread range include: Milan, Turin and Monaco. Two of them have Italian names and look stunning.
The MILAN Boys Leather School Shoes traditional lace-up shoes that look smart not just for school but also for special occasions. The Permair leather is soft enough to allow easy flexible movement, offering comfort and engineered to cope with the rigours of the school yard. The sole is tough and strong but also flexible and lightweight. Teamed with durable ‘dual fit’ technology and subtle stitching finishes off the look.
Treads are constructed using a “strobel” technique where the upper is placed into a mould and the sole is then injected around it creating one unit without the need for any gluing. This not only creates a really strong bond but offers additional flexibility, perfect for active kids.
The TURIN Boys Leather School Shoes are also traditional lace-up shoes with a slightly elongated squared off toe for that contemporary feel.
The MONACO Boys Leather School Shoes are modern slip on with classic appeal for boys who don’t have the time for laces.
