Watch out for new Aardman film EARLY MAN starring EDDIE REDMAYNE & Tom Hiddleston

I expect great things from Early Man, a new Aardman movie announced by STUDIOCANAL. The new animation features the man of the moment Eddie Redmayne who has joined Nick Park’s new prehistoric comedy adventure called EARLY MAN as the voice of Dug. He is in good company with Tom Hiddleston and Maisie Williams.

Aardman EARLY MAN EDDIE REDMAYNE ANNOUNCED as the voice of Dug

Nick Park recently said: ‘Not only is Eddie a joy to work with, his versatility and boundless energy have really helped to bring my new character to life.

He embodies the cheeky charm, fun and plucky wit of Dug and I’m sure he’ll get along brilliantly with Dug’s sidekick Hognob.’

The story

Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, EARLY MAN tells the story of how plucky caveman Dug, along with sidekick Hognob (also pictured) unites his tribe against the mighty Bronze Age in a battle to beat them at their own game. It also marks Nick Park’s first feature film since Academy Award winning WALLACE AND GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT. Supported by accomplished screenwriter Mark Burton this new film unleashes an unforgettable cast of hilarious new characters.

EARLY MAN continues the production partnership with AARDMAN and STUDIOCANAL following the success of SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE directed by Mark Burton and Richard Starzak. STUDIOCANAL is co-financing and will distribute in its own territories, the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, selling worldwide. The BFI (British Film Institute) is also a partner on EARLY MAN.

The Cast

AARDMAN and STUDIOCANAL today announced that Maisie Williams (‘Game of Thrones’) has been cast in Nick Park’s highly anticipated new prehistoric comedy adventure, EARLY MAN. Maisie joins the cast voicing Goona, the gallant and indomitable rebel who befriends the film’s hero Dug (Eddie Redmayne), and helps steer him through the clash of the Stone Age and Bronze Age civilisations.

Nick Park said of the casting: “Maisie is a terrific actress, and she is of course no stranger to embodying a valiant heroine. I’m most excited to see her breathe life into Goona – I know she’ll be the perfect ally to Eddie’s Dug”.

Maisie added: “I’m a huge Aardman fan – having the chance to work with Nick Park is a dream come true, especially as I get to voice such a fantastic character as Goona. I can’t wait for audiences to meet her”.

In October AARDMAN and STUDIOCANAL also announced that Tom Hiddleston had joined the cast of EARLY MAN. Tom joins the cast voicing the ridiculously pompous Lord Nooth, governor of the Bronze Age town – a money-loving tyrant and rival to the film’s Stone Age hero, Dug (Eddie Redmayne).

Nick Park said of the casting: “Tom is a wonderful actor and it’s so thrilling to see him bring our comic villain to life with his amazing talent, energy and enthusiasm. It is a great privilege to work with Tom and I’m so excited to see his character Lord Nooth emerge on screen!”

Tom added: “I’ve been a fan of Nick Park and Aardman for as long as I can remember, and am incredibly honoured to be working with Nick and the team on this adventure. I’m thrilled to be able to breathe some semblance of life into this hysterical villain and to work with Eddie for the first time. EARLY MAN made me laugh out loud when I read it. Lord Nooth is larger than life in every respect. I can’t wait for audiences to meet him”.

Cameras are rolling in Bristol with Eddie Redmayne announced as the voice of Dug, and additional casting news expected.

The film is set to be released in the UK on 26 January 2018. It’s early days but I cannot wait to see it!
