Today new comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer Free Guy is released in UK cinemas. One to cheer us up!
The story
In Twentieth Century Studios’ epic adventure-comedy Free Guy, a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story… one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.

The verdict
Free Guy encapsulates the best elements of a comedy whilst expressing the integral role that love plays in changing life from purely an existence, to a reality worth living. Ryan Reynolds’s infectious energy carries throughout the film and his friendship with Buddy is truly heart-warming. It was refreshing to see cameos from streamers like Ninja and Pokimane, particularly because Free City is clearly influenced by current popular games such as Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto. Millie’s realisation that Guy’s programming was a reflection of the way Keys felt was incredibly romantic and a lovely way to conclude the film, however I felt that their chemistry deserved more screen time earlier in the film. Overall Free Guy is an easy watch that delivers the important message that it is our relationships with others that make moments real.
