Film review: Sonic The Hedgehog 2

On Sunday 27th March a group of young reporters and two adults, the ‘big kids’ of the group, attended a special screening of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on behalf of London Mums Magazine. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is in cinemas now.

The adorable blue character Sonic The Hedgehog is back, the sequel’s synopsis has Sonic and Tails stopping Robotnik from using the Master Emerald to take over Earth, with of course, loads of other action.

The story

When the manic Dr Robotnik returns to Earth with a new ally, Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic and his new friend Tails is all that stands in their way.

The verdict

The start of the movie is a little slow to take off but then ‘ bang’ it starts to become a bit more lively. There might be times where the pacing slows the enjoyment, but once you hit the Sonic Boom levels Sonic 2 has to offer, then it’s on par with Sonic 1, and I think that’s enough to justify how good these films are.

The animation throughout the movie is stellar. Tails needs a bit more character development while Sonic and Knuckles have similarities of losing loved ones and making their rivalry work so well.

I have seen both Sonic movies and have played the video games when it first came out in 1991 by Sega. I have been fan of the ‘ Blue Hedgehog’ ever since. I recommend that you watch the first Sonic movie or have played the Sonic games as it gives you some background knowledge of the characters which will make the movie more enjoyable.

Also let’s not forget you have a amazing cast in this movie including Jim Carrey and Idris Elba who does the voice of Knuckles and you also have James Marsden and Colleen O’Shaughnessey who does the voice of Tails.

London Mums’ rating: 7/10
