Film review: My Spy starring Dave Bautista

My spy is the perfect spy movie for families. No blood, lots of fun and action. A spy movie with lots of gags and action starring Dave Bautista, a Dwayne Johnson’s lookalike. Although you could tell from the very start that this movie would have been perfect for The Rock, ten minutes into the story you warm up to Bautista’s character. Think Mission: Impossible meets Johnny English. My spy is released in the UK on 17 April 2020.

The story

A hardened CIA operative (Dave Bautista) finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl (Chloe Coleman), having been sent undercover to surveil her family.

The verdict

London Mums’ child reporter Maya Benedetti (13) went to a preview screening at Dolby and sent us her verdict:

“My Spy was the very first action movie I have ever seen! It was really entertaining and I could really feel the adrenaline rushing through my body, while watching the animated pictures and sounds come to life around me. The movie was not only the action, it also contained comedy and romance.

Sophie is a is very smart and responsible girl being raised by single mum. After moving to a new city, she finds life hard in her new primary school, where she is unpopular and bullied.

Suddenly, almost like a miracle, JayJay (a professional spy) comes into their life and changes everything.

Overall, the movie was very funny and I was left speechless by all of the amazing scenery and effects of this film.

I have to say it was a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend for anyone who is 11 and above to go watch it!”.

London Mums’ rating: 7/10

Kids’ club rating: 10/10
