The verdict

“Bob Marley: One Love” is a commendable biopic that captures the essence of Bob Marley’s journey from humble beginnings in rural Jamaica to international stardom. Produced partly by his family, the film maintains authenticity. Kudos to the producers and cast.

Londoner Kingsley Ben-Adir is brilliant as reggae icon Bob Marley. The actor also played Malcolm X in One Night In Miami and as a Ken in Barbie.

Lashana Lynch stars as Rita Marley and sings as beautifully as in Matilda The Musical.

One notable aspect is its accessibility to both reggae enthusiasts and those unfamiliar with the genre. However, one drawback is the predominant use of Jamaican English, which may pose comprehension challenges for some viewers, particularly those unaccustomed to the dialect. Subtitles would have been beneficial, especially for non-British audiences.

Prepare to get emotional. Kingsley Ben-Adir is a gorgeous version of Bob Marley, while portraying his character with grace and depth. He is excellent even as a singer and a dancer, perfectly mimicking Marley’s iconic moves.

The flashbacks into Marley’s childhood are the best way to keep the flow of the story without turning the movie into a biopic.

London Mums’ Rating: 8/10

PG Rating

The film carries a PG-13 rating due to smoking throughout, marijuana use, brief strong language, and some violence. Despite these elements, the movie is relatively tame compared to contemporary content available on streaming platforms, offering a valuable pacifist message.
