2017 will be filled with superheroes, super villains, pirates and beautiful heroines too, animations to make us laugh, sing and cry. Everybody will have a film to look forward to. I don’t think there has ever been such a line up.
2017
Sing (27 January 2017)
Sing is an amazing animation by the same film makers behind Despicable me. We all loved it and we will post a review very soon. Watch this space! Meantime enjoy this teaser trailer.
Wonder Woman (2 June 2017)
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (17 March 2017)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (7 July 2017)
Disney’s Cars 3 (14 July 2017)
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
THOR: RAGNAROK (27 October 2017)
“Thor: Ragnarok,” the third installment of Marvel’s popular Norse Super Hero, is directed by Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Taika Waititi (“Two Cars, One Night,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”). Kevin Feige will produce the film, joined by executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee.
STARRING
CHRIS HEMSWORTH, TOM HIDDLESTON, IDRIS ELBA AND SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS.
DIRECTED BY TAIKA WAITITI
COCO (8 December 2017)
STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII (15 December 2017)
Following the tragic death of Carrie Fisher after Christmas Disney/Lucas Film might not go ahead with the next Star Wars installment as they had planned to do so for mid December 2017. This loss is devastating and will certainly have consequences in the film production.
2018
WRECK-IT RALPH sequel (Spring 2018)
Wreck-It Ralph is heading back to the big screen, and this time, he’s wrecking the internet. The Oscar®-nominated Walt Disney Animation Studios team from the original film is reteaming for the follow-up, including director Rich Moore (“Zootopia,” “The Simpsons”) and producer Clark Spencer (“Zootropolis,” “Bolt”). Phil Johnston (writer, “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Zootopia,” “Cedar Rapids”) joins Moore as director and a writer on the project. John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman return as the bad-guy-turned-good, Ralph, and the girl with the game-winning glitch, Vanellope von Schweetz. The untitled sequel will hit UK cinemas Spring 2018.
I was lucky to be able to interview Rich Moore when he came to London for the release of Zootropolis. Read my behind the scenes interview here.
Rich has been developing the new Wreck it Ralph since shortly after the release of the first film, and while directing this year’s critically-acclaimed hit “Zootopia” with Byron Howard. This is what he had to say: “From the moment we started working on the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters. This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them—and the actors who voice them—once again.”
When “Wreck-It Ralph” opened in November 2012, it turned in the highest opening weekend ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film at the time of release. Nominated for an Oscar® and Golden Globe® for best animated feature, “Wreck-It Ralph” won the PGA Award for outstanding producer of an animated theatrical motion picture as well as five Annie Awards, including best animated feature, director, cast and screenplay. The film was named best animated feature by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, earned outstanding achievement in casting for an animated feature by the Casting Society of America, and won the Kids’ Choice Award for favorite animated movie.
