Picture Book of the week: Rabunzel – Fairy Tales for the Fearless

London Mums’ book of the week is Rabunzel, a funny twist on classic fairy tale Rapunzel. It’s the first title in a brand new exciting picture book series called Fairy Tales for the Fearless by Gareth P. Jones.

The reinvented story follows a rabbit named Rabunzel whose mother tries to keep her safe from the dangerous hungry eyed creatures by keeping her locked up in an immensely high tree. Rabunzel becomes a superhero of the animal world.

This modern twist on the classic tale is filled with messages of being resilient and true to yourself with humorous and bold illustrations from Loretta Schauer, winner of Waterstones ‘Picture This’.

Rabunzel has to come up with activities to keep entertained such as exercising and talking to her friends on the phonewhich very much resonates with families in lockdown at the moment.

Author Gareth P. Jones has published a number of other picture books and young fiction titles including The Considine Curse (winner of the Blue Peter Book of the Year Prize), The Thornthwaite Inheritance and The Dragon Detective Agency series (Waterstones Book Prize shortlisted). He has worked on a number of TV shows and regularly performs at festivals and schools. More about Gareth can also be found here.
