Holiday Activity Books: My London & My New York by Majel van der Meulen

The Summer is great but children need lots of entertainment and it cannot always be video games or outdoor playing. A good book is always a blessing especially if it inspires children with ideas for creative activities. My favourite ones have to be My London: Colour Draw, Explore and My New York: Colour, Draw, Explore by Majel van der Muelen.

Majel van der Meulen has created these two new activity books for Laurence King, based on her most favourite cities to visit. My London and My New York are packed with opportunities to colour, draw and explore these capitals, and there are handy pull-out postcards to send to friends while on holiday. There’s plenty of creative activities to do – kids can draw their friends and family way up high in the London Eye or fill the Tate Modern with posters, create a New York pizza.

My London: Colour, Draw, Explore encourages children to take a trip through London while colouring and drawing people on the British capital’s famous landmarks. They can even design their own skyscrapers and colour the boats along the Thames, follow the river and spot buildings. This beautifully illustrated keepsake book is the perfect companion to a day out in London, or a souvenir to take home (for those who are not based in Central London).

Majel van der Meulen’s expressive drawings bring the bustling capital to life, inspiring children to capture the excitement for themselves.

My New York: Colour, Draw, Explore is similar to the London book but with New York themed activities for children.

Children can take a ‘virtual’ trip through New York, build their own museum, design their own Statue of Liberty, or start their own baseball team.
This beautiful keepsake book also features an exciting fold out scene, and includes four postcards to personalise and send to friends and family. It’s the perfect companion to a day out in the Big Apple – even if it’s just a virtual holiday.

Both these books are highly entertaining as well as educational. They inspire children to be more interested in geography and history. I highly recommend them above and beyond Summer.
