Powering up parental influence – Free online event discussing how we can save our children from disappearing into a virtual world

As modern parents, we all want the best for our children and are determined to guide them on their journey of life. But competing with the rising world of technology can be difficult; screens have become more and more pervasive in our children’s lives, leaving many parents feeling desperate and helpless. With digital media consumption on the rise, it’s hard to know where to turn in order to protect your child from falling victim to negative influences and ideas that could harm their mental health.

iheart, the children’s mental health charity, is hosting a free online event on 27th February 2023 at 7-9pm. This event features founder, author and podcaster, Terry Rubenstein along with Ian Russell, online safety campaigner and father of Molly Rose, who tragically took her own life, talking about ways you can empower yourself as a parent and take proactive measures.  Book your free space for this workshop on powering up parental influence here.

This event is for any parent looking to reclaim their parental influence over their children and to hear from two unique leaders who are transforming how we think about and address the issue. In Ian’s case, he deeply shares the need to ‘understand the road’ and is challenging some of the largest technology companies on the planet to change their policies and leading the charge to bring about legislative and government policy change. In Terry’s case, her professional life has been dedicated to ‘preparing our children for the road’, through creating innovative, industry-leading programmes to educate youth about their built-in resilience

This is a conversation between two courageous and inspiring people that every family needs to hear. As Ian asks; “If we don’t understand this new space we are co-living in, how can we use it responsibly and safely?”

During this event parents will gain a refreshing perspective and learn how to help their children develop healthy relationships within the ever-increasing digital world. Topics being discussed will include: fundamentals to build healthier relationships with your children; understand how limiting their devices brings them back to the real world; empower your child to see how they can use social media without it using them; teach your child that social media does not have the power to give (or take away) their wellbeing, all with the desired outcome of helping your child develop a healthy relationship with their devices and people! There will also be an opportunity to put questions to an expert panel.

As a parent, it is important to set the foundation for children so they can build healthier relationships not only with people in the real world, but also with their devices. By understanding how to use technology in a healthy and safe way, you are empowering your child whilst conveying an invaluable lesson. If you want to see how this is possible, please join iheart for what promises to be a fascinating discussion, led by two inspiring industry leaders.

We live in a world where technology seems to have an ever-strengthening vice like grip on our children but what if we could educate our children that they can use social media, without it using them? Imagine how empowered our children and us as parents would feel.
