A fresh approach to flexible working – be sociable, make money and have fun

Did you know that direct selling parties have grown by over 150% since 2009? Nearly 900,000 Brits attended one of 127,000 parties last year.

Global household appliance manufacturer Vorwerk is expanding in the UK using a ‘party planning’ sales model, but with a fresh new take. Working with them means you can make new friends whilst making money.

Caroline Buehner, who works as a Sales Advisor for global household appliance manufacturer Vorwerk, gives us an insight into her daily routine in direct selling.

What is special about direct selling with Vorwerk?

Unlike many other direct selling roles I didn’t have to invest any of my own money into getting started, nor did I have to pay for any of the training to get me started. Also, I did not have to pay for any of the training I was given. I still receive regular, ongoing support now which will help me to progress as far as I want to with the company. Because Vorwerk is a global business, it’s a very professional environment to be working in and the training and support is world class.

There’s also no pressure to hit sales targets; I am able to sell through my social networks which means giving people the opportunity to try the product in their own home, in a relaxed social setting with no obligation to buy. In fact, many of my sales have come from friends who have then referred me on to other people who then host their own party.

What benefits does a career in direct sales have?

The main benefit for me has been the freedom to work my own hours and control my own income. I work a minimum of 15 hours per week with the remaining time to focus on other things such as the children (or life’s uncontrollable events!). The beauty is the flexibility, I have the chance to earn up to £3000 a month if I work full-time hours, which is great in the build up to Christmas when I’ve got presents to buy!

Who is your typical direct Sales Advisor?

A lot of ladies I know have been interested to find out more about what I do, so I think that shows that there is a real opportunity for stay at home mums and ‘mums on the go’ to earn a good income whilst fitting the role in around other commitments and still being able to socialise.

One of the things I love most about my role is that I get to combine my two favourite things – a love for quality products and chatting with the girls!

What training is available?

When I started my role with Vorwerk, I had no experience in party planning or direct sales, but I was soon really confident following the excellent induction training and ongoing sale training. There’s also the opportunity for fast track promotion to Team Leader status if I want to progress more quickly.

All the company asks is that you are friendly, focused and a good communicator with a passion for selling what is a great product.
