The Sirtfood Diet is a powerful weight loss diet, we don’t recommend it if you are trying to conceive or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. But if none of those apply, and you’re a busy mum looking to shed some weight, especially that stubborn post-baby weight that lingers on around the middle, then that’s a whole different ball game.
To better understand why, let’s drill down to Sirtfoods, which are a newly discovered group of wonder foods that are able to activate a powerful recycling process in the body that clears out cellular waste and burns fat. They do this by activating our sirtuin genes – also known as our “skinny” genes. Indeed, these are the very same genes that are activated by exercise and fasting. So, for busy mums out there who are reading between the lines, yes, that means a way to lose weight without gruelling calorie restriction or punishing exercise regimes.
In fact, the Sirtfood Diet approach is all about what you put on your plate, not what you take off. The top 20 Sirtfoods include many readily available, accessible and delicious foods and some of the top Sirtfoods include kale, rocket, parsley, red onions, strawberries, walnuts, extra virgin olive oil, cocoa, curry spices, green tea and coffee (yes, coffee!).
One of the beauties of the Sirtfood Diet is the type of weight loss people experience. In our pilot trial, we saw participants lose 7lbs in 7 days, and either maintain or even gain muscle. This is perfect for achieving a more lean and toned look, and also helps to keep metabolism up, setting the stage for long-term weight loss success. Likewise, it is common to see inches melting away around the middle, offering the perfect antidote to losing weight around the stomach area and rediscovering something akin to a pre-baby figure.
Phase 1 of the Sirtfood Diet offers a 7-day plan proven to help lose 7lbs. It is the only phase of the diet where calories are controlled. During the first three days, calorie intake is restricted to 1,000 calories per day (consisting of three Sirtfood green juices, plus one full meal rich in Sirtfoods) and on days four to seven, calorie intake increases to 1,500 calories (comprising two Sirtfood green juices and two Sirtfood-rich meals). As the juices for the day can be made all in one go in the morning (or even the night before) and stored in the fridge, it really does cut down on time spent in the kitchen.
One of our most striking findings was that unlike with conventional dieting, participants rarely felt hungry. This is down to the fact that Sirtfoods have the unique ability to naturally satiate appetite. Indeed, rather than feeling ‘hangry’ (aka hungry and angry), which is so often the outcome with weight loss dieting, our experience shows us that those following the diet typically feel energised and revitalised, as well as experiencing better sleep – a boon for any busy mum constantly on the go.
After the initial 7 days, it’s on to Phase 2, a 14-day maintenance phase, where weight loss continues steadily. From here on in, it’s all about packing the diet full of a wealth of Sirtfoods in a sustainable and realistic way. This is achieved by eating three balanced Sirtfood-rich meals daily, along with a ‘maintenance’ Sirtfood green juice. Best of all, the focus switches to a family-friendly way of eating including perennial faves such as ‘Sirtified’ versions of chilli con carne, curry, pizza, pancakes, and even our energising Sirtfood bite snacks.
So if you’re looking for a diet that works around your lifestyle and all its hecticness, a diet that includes fantastic tasting food that the whole family will enjoy, and a diet where every bite brings real life-improving health benefits, then the Sirtfood Diet is the perfect way to go.
