Health report: the importance of Amino acids

Amino acids, a term used often but rarely understood! Not many of us know what amino acids are and about their input in our health system. It’s shocking, but research by NHCO Nutrition suggests that 62% of us, are unaware of what they actually are!

Amino acids are e protein-borne molecules are essential for a number of bodily functions, including digestion, hormone health, metabolism and brain health. They can be found in the proteins we eat, such as meat, dairy, eggs and fish but often they are not enough and a way to help our health system is by using supplements which often contains histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. There are essential amino acids our body needs to stay healthy, for a balanced diet and for when we do any type of sport.

When trying out amino acids supplements its good to know that they also most probably contain important vitamins to look out, such as vitamin C, Thiamine , Riboflavin, Niacin, Biotin, folic acid, zinc, copper and iron. Always check the labels to see which are the extra vitamins that will help you by improving and managing your health weight, reduce feelings of tiredness and fatigue.

If you’re trying to loose weight, using amino acids may make this process a little bit easier as these supplements may help burn fat faster!

Research shows that more than six in ten adults in England are overweight or obese. Considering that being overweight may lead to heart disease, liver disease and diabetes, it is very important to think at our future and at our health. Amino acids can help with better digestion, hormone health and metabolism.

The latest Aminoscience real world research poll found that, despite amino acids playing a key role in metabolism, only 25% of Brits have heard that amino acids are associated with body weight control. Of this 25%, nearly half (42%) believe amino acids can help with metabolism, 30% think they convert fat to energy, 24% claim they make you feel fuller while 22% say they stop you feeling hungry.

Its also important to remember that our basal metabolic rate may be influenced by different factors, such as our gender, stress hormones and age. Gender is important because as men have more muscle, they have less body fat that women therefore they burn more calories. Stress hormones, such as cortisol, stimulates fat and carbohydrate metabolism which, though essential for survival, can, if levels of cortisol remain high, increase appetite and overeating. While ageing, peoples’  amount of muscle tends to decrease and their proportion of body fat increases which reduces calorie burning.

Taking into account these different factors, we need to remember that amino acids supplements will help with the different transitions life puts us in front and we should always think that a balanced diet and some kind of sport will help us during our different stages of life.
