A growing number of mums are getting lash extensions done professionally to make everyday life easier.

What’s all about lash extensions?

The best thing about lash extensions, particularly for mums, is the time you save in the mornings. The benefit of lash extensions is that they’re individually applied with eyelash extension glue and are semi-permanent. There’s no need for mascara or even eyeliner (unless you really want it) as your eyes will look defined from the get-go.

If you are a busy mum, there is no doubt that you can relate to having precious little time to spend on yourself. You may only get five minutes to put some makeup on and get out the door in the mornings. Or you may be one of those mums who doesn’t wear any makeup at all because it just seems like too much effort.

Whatever your situation, eyelash extensions can make a huge difference to your appearance and how you feel. They save time and money because they don’t require regular maintenance (no mascara), and you can have them applied in a few short hours while having a nap.

Lash extensions or mascaras?

Unlike false lashes or mascaras, which use fibers and chemicals to help darken and lengthen your real lashes, lash extensions are made of synthetic materials that are applied to your eyelids — the same way you apply eyeliner.

Before getting a lash extension at a beauty salon, you should know what kind of look you want to achieve. You can make your eyes look bigger by going for a natural volume or choose a dramatic look by adding some length to your eyelash.

Particularly for first-timers, the process of applying eyelash extensions is a bit of an art and can take up to two hours at a salon. It involves individual fake lashes being glued to real ones, one by one, often with tweezers and sometimes a magnifying glass. A good technician will use varying lengths of fake lashes to mimic the look of naturally long lashes, as well as shorter strands near the inner corner of the eye for a more realistic look.

 

Take care of your lashes

Once you have your extensions, you will need to know how to take care of them to keep them looking great.

Wash your face with mild soap twice a day. You should wash your face every morning and evening before applying makeup or removing it. You can use any mild soap for washing your face, but avoid using eyelash extension shampoo because it may be too harsh for the skin on your face.

Pat dry with a clean towel after washing. After washing your face, pat it gently with a clean towel until it is completely dry. Make sure not to rub or scrub at your face when drying off, as this can irritate the delicate skin on your face. Washcloths can be made of rough material, so avoid using them when drying your face.

Remove eye makeup with a remover that is oil-free and non-irritating. When removing eye makeup, try to use an eye makeup remover that is gentle and will not damage or irritate the skin.
