I come to the rescue with my top beauty essentials for the party season. Lots of my friends have asked me so I hope you’ll find my list useful.
I spent the best part of Summer outside on the beach. Unfortunately, soaking up sunshine and chlorine damages our skin and shows in your complexion in the autumn and winter months. For mature skin (like mine), the sun leaves behind uneven pigmentation and age spots as well as an increased risk of lines and wrinkles. So this Winter I have desperately searched for the best products to keep my skin hydrated (but not greasy) over the cold season as well as restore and nurture my dull or damaged skin in time for the next Spring and Summer.
Pre-party skin preparation
There’s a new unique product for helping prevent post-party acne. It’s a sebum purifier that helps protect skin from acne breakouts. Acne is caused by the over-production of sebum. But it’s not the production of serum that’s the problem, acne is caused when the sebum goes ‘rotten’. Sebum is a very organic substance that goes off quickly once contaminated with external bacteria and dirt on the surface of the skin (in particular from lashings of party make up) causing pore blockages, inflammation and puss.
Sebopure, by UK acne skincare brand Clarol, is an innovative new anti-acne treatment that contains a patented ingredient called Pixalia ™ made from a concentrated leaf oil extract from the Cleome Gynandra (wild mustard) plant which works by purifying sebum to prevent blockages, inflammation and puss forming – while still allowing the body to process sebum naturally.
Instead of working against the skin’s natural processes through the use of harsh anti-bacterial agents or sebum blocking products, Sebopure works in harmony with the skin’s natural sebum production, keeping sebum pure to prevent acne while not damaging or drying skin. Sebopure is suitable for oily or combination acne-prone skin and is a vegan product that is FREE from parabens, perfumes, SLS and MI. It costs £12.95 (50l) and is available from www.clarol.co.uk.
Diet tip: During the party season we all overindulge. But it’s worth remembering that food rich in essential fatty acids (cold water fish such as salmon and flax seed) will repair cells and protect the skin from further damage while diets high in antioxidants (whole grains, veggies, fruits and nuts) will repair and protect your skin. Avocado is particularly good to protect the skin because it contains carotinoide which shields the skin from damaging UV- Rays with the result that the skin looks younger, fresher and healthier.
Detoxification and exfoliation of the skin
I wash my face with delicate soaps twice a day to make sure impurities are washed out. To prepare my skin for make-up I tried Silver & Birch Exfoliating Wash also by Clarol which works best when used in combination with Sebopure serum. The Silver & Birch Exfoliating Wash contains Birch Bark plus a basket of other naturally active targeted ingredients to treat acne-prone skin. In Russia Birch Bark is widely used as an effective skin exfoliate and detoxifier for treating acne.
Birch Bark also contains betulin to help reduce inflammation in acne-prone skin and Lupeol and Erythrodiol which studies prove can help increase the production of proteins in skin cells to speed up the healing process.
Exfoliation helps remove dead and infected skin cells on the skin’s surface that can trigger acne and helps skin re-generate new and healthy skin cells. Pumice Stone and Rice Bran are used to naturally and effectively exfoliate and remove dirt and dead skin cells.
Silver & Birch Exfoliating Wash costs £11.95 (75ml) available from www.clarol.co.uk.
Anti-aging base cream
Since my teenage years I have used various products to moisture my skin. After reaching the age of 40 I have introduced my skin to a repair serum as well as anti-aging base creams, which I apply under my moisturiser especially at night. I also drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to keep my skin moisturised and eliminate toxins as well as green tea. It does indeed make a huge difference to my skin appearance and texture. I feel that when I am dehydrated internally lines and wrinkles show up more. Someone has told me that Coconut water is an alternative to water. It’s ideal for people who don’t like drinking water.
I am lucky, my Mediterranean complexion is more resilient to weather and age. I have used Sothys make-up products for this picture.
Back to anti-aging products, which are my favourite ones and I am a bit addicted to, because somehow they make me feel good about myself. My latest finding is the hydrating lotion by Skinfix.
I love it in combination with the Skinfix brightening eye cream.
The lotion needs to be applied twice a day for best results. I have used it for a week and the change is already visible. My skin feels soft, radiant and renewed despite the cold weather.
One of London Mums’ testers showed results similar to those shown in these images.
After 1 week:
The beauty of Skinfix is in the natural ingredients. I prefer knowing that I put aloe and macademia oil on my skin rather than harsh chemicals. Skinfix uses rice protein (powerful natural agents that strengthen the skin barrier function), Jojoba Oil (that deeply hydrates), Red Seaweed (Chondrus Cripsus) Extract (that creates a plump appearance), Aloe Leaf Extract (which helps repair collagen and elastin), Macadamia Oil (healing) and Cucumber Extract (that contains high levels of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, soothes & calms – and it smells delicious!).
The combination of the Skinfix lotion with the eye cream gives my skin the fresh pick-me-up it deserves at the end of the day. When I wake up in the morning my face has a plump radiant skin and does not actually feel like wanting more cream on.
These beauty essentials will make sure I’ll be able to attend parties and networking events throughout the party season.
Long lasting party make-up
I am not one of those girls with a bag full of make up products. I tend to forget to retouch it throughout the evening so if I wear cheap make-up it will run off my face in the middle of the evening. My favourite beauty brand (not the cheap and cheerful one you find in high street shops) to help my forgetfulness is luxury, Parisian SOTHYS which have launched a new gorgeous Autumn/Winter 2016 Makeup Collection.
There are seven new beauty essentials in warm and elegant shades that will bring Parisian chic into a whole new light.
The products ones I am using include:
Lip Duo’s Colour Lip Pencil & Contour lip Pencil RRP £21.00 – they are coordinated for a chic and sophisticated look. Available in both Rogue Brique and Rose Lumière for a classic autumnal style.
Ombre Sothys Eye Quartet Palette RRP £29.50 – Four new complementary shades with a fine, creamy texture that have both matte and iridescent finishes. These can be used along with the Mix Solution to build coverage and intensity across the eyes.
Radiance Blush RRP £22.00 – This adds a touch of luminosity to my skin. The Burnt Sienna shade restores radiance to the face in one single step allowing you to create a lustrous summer glow during the colder season.
For a more sophisticated evening look, I think I will accentuate the eye make-up like in this beautiful model’s face.
I love this how to do the make-up of Sothys Paris Autumn-Winter Make-up collection. I am now following these tips to apply my own make-up.
Inevitably after 40 we need to take care of ourselves a lot more. In my desperate search for beauty essentials I have found a 100% natural British intimate skincare range called In2mate which is for women who feel their intimate skin could benefit from some rejuvenation and is ideal for use after childbirth and for women entering the menopause.
As an Italian I am obsessed with intimate skincare and I even have a bidet in my house. Vaginal skin receives a high level of wear and tear so it’s even more important to preserve skin in this delicate area.
The key to preserving skin and keeping it younger and more flexible is antioxidants. In2mate products are one of the first intimate skincare products to contain a patented antioxidant PROTEOLEA® which has been proven to help rejuvenate delicate areas of skin by slowing down age-related oxidised cellular waste degradation by optimising cellular recycling. This process helps improve flexibility and moisturisation for a more radiant appearance and healthier feel.
Healthy bacterial balance in the vagina is crucial for maintaining good vaginal health. The humid and airless environment of the vagina combined with sexual activity, makes for an ideal place for the breeding of bad bacteria and fungus.
In2mate skincare contains a patented probiotic Biolin ®, proven to help increase the good flora in the vagina while inhibiting the growth of bad vaginal bacteria that can lead to bacterial vaginitis, thrush and other bacterial infections and imbalances.
The In2Mate skincare range is over 99% natural and includes a gentle, non-perfumed intimate wash, a light non-sticky non-perfumed intimate moisturiser and a natural-feeling non-perfumed rejuvenating lubricant.
The In2Mate complete skincare range costs £19.95 but lasts for ages so it’s a great investment.
