The Mayor of London champions the cause for female entrepreneurs at International Women’s Day conference

UK top female entrepreneurs and experts provide advice on how to grow small businesses at a networking event organized by peer support groups London Mums and Work Your Way.
London, UK – 15th February, 2013 – On International Women’s Day 8th March 2013, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson will address the conference ‘Nurturing female entrepreneurship through the power of collaboration’ aimed at female entrepreneurs who need help kick-starting or growing a business, as well as inspiration, practical advice and networking opportunities.
The event hosted at City Hall is organized by London Mums, the FREE and independent peer support group for mums and mumpreneurs based in London, in collaboration with Work Your Way, the small business support group which aims to help freelance and self-employed women maintain a healthy work-life balance as business owners.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said ‘I am immensely proud to be hosting an entrepreneurial event at City Hall to mark International Women’s Day. I hope it will highlight the immeasurable contribution that London women make to our capital. Entrepreneurship will not only help strengthen our economy but empower women and help them contribute further to society. We need to instil confidence in the next generation of entrepreneurial women and I am positive this event will create a platform for the development of new relationships and collaborations.’
Speakers include Apprentice finalist and successful entrepreneur Claire Young who will share her insights and advice on creating a business vision and more importantly making it happen; Emma Jones, author, founder of small business community Enterprise Nation and co-founder of StartUp Britain, a national campaign to help people start-up a business. Jones will provide advice on how to grow the business without outgrowing the home.
Other presentations will cover work and entrepreneurship new practices in the era of the iPhone, Facebook and Google by Sal Matteis, Co-founder and CEO of Milk.ly; business collaboration examples by Maria Johnson, Co-Founder of soft-play centre chain Eddie Catz; the power of peer-to-peer mentoring by Penny Power, entrepreneur, author and founder of Ecademy.
One of the highlights of this conference is a presentation on Inbound marketing and Social Media by Michael Shilling, social media guru and founder of Memory Gate Photography, who will deliver a practical workshop defining how a small business’ blog and social media presence can generate referrals and showcasing tools which can improve time management and productivity.
