Orchids Lates at Kew Gardens
Thursday 11 / 18 / 25 February & 3 March 2016 – 18:00 – 21:30
After the sell-out success of our 2015 inaugural Kew Lates, the Princess of Wales Conservatory will once again throw open its doors after dark for a series of intimate evenings amongst the thousands of tropical flowers of our Orchid Festival. Throw yourself into a real celebration of Brazil, its striking plant life and the exotic, colourful and vibrant atmosphere of the annual Carnival of Brazil.
Dive into the spirit of the night with Caipirinhas and other dangerously delicious Brazilian cocktails, while you tease your taste buds even further with an array of Brazilian food.
Enjoy an evening like no other in London, filled with botanical cocktails, inspiring talks, music, food, samba and more, all amongst a riotous display of tropical flowers within a luscious Kew glasshouse after dark. Tickets must be pre-booked.

Spending a day on the River Thames with your children is brilliant fun, a proper day out. FREE Family Events at IWM London February – March 2016
IWM (Imperial War Museums) is one of my favourite museums in London and is free. If you haven’t visited yet with your children, half-term can be a good time. IWM is very educational at many different levels – even toddlers can enjoy the machineries and artifact at the main exhibition. It tells the story of people who have lived, fought and died in conflicts involving Britain and the Commonwealth since the First World War.
Many activities are free. Over February half term, celebrated political artist Peter Kennard will be in the building giving tips to families on creating the perfect political collage in the Family Art Workshop: Protest and Survive (13 – 21 February, free).
Over Easter, IWM will be celebrating marking 100 years since the introduction of the iconic Brodie ‘Tommy’ helmet during the First World War with a drawing workshop – Art Workshop: Make a Moving Animation – to create animated versions using tricks dating from the time (25 – 31 March, free).
Also taking place in March is returning family learning session Introduction to the Holocaust (19-20 March, free) and IWM London will be taking part in Disabled Access Day 2016, taking place on 12 March.
Visitors to the gallery can discover the personal stories behind each award and examine the concept of bravery, from aggression and endurance through to skill and sacrifice. A free stamper trail is available for families.
Address: IWM London, Lambeth Road, London, SE1 6HZ
To mark Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary the British Council and GREAT campaign have launched Shakespeare Lives – a year-long global programme celebrating Shakespeare’s influence around the world. The campaign invites the public to join in celebrating the life and legacy of William Shakespeare by sharing favorite moments of Shakespeare on social media, watch never-before-seen performances on stage, film and online, visit exhibitions and take part in workshops and debates. An epic campaign, the international events include: a global touring programme in association with BFI; the Royal Shakespeare Company touring to China and workshops delivered across Sudan, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia by Hip-hop Shakespeare Company. This year the world truly is Shakespeare’s stage. I have taken a FREE online course which is amazing. I recommend it. Follow the link to start now.
