London Mums Back to School 2017 newsletter including FREE events in London

Dear London Mums

School is back and our job as masters of entertainment is over for at least another month and half. Work feels like a holiday (giggle).

I don’t know about you, but for me things are changing as my son has just started secondary school and I need to adjust at being mummy taxi now (before we used to walk to school) and to being head of police when checking that homework is done properly. Secondary school adds a new dimension to parenting.

Schooling Tips

I have asked London Mums’ expert Lorrae Jaderberg for her practical advice on how to adjust to schooling after the Summer holidays. Here are some of her articles:

FIRST SUSTAINABLE FOOD WEEKEND AT MERCATO METROPOLITANO 15-17 September 2017, at Elephant and Castle, South London

Mercato Metropolitano hosts the First Sustainable Food Weekend from 15-17 September as part of the Urban Food Fortnight – with a weekend that explores Mercato Metropolitano’s mission of shaping the way we think about food safety, environment, sustainability and social inclusiveness in London. Disco Soup is a global movement that celebrates delicious solutions to food waste – and this one will feature 1,000 people chopping to the beat while they create a meal collectively, using surplus food that would otherwise have been wasted.  And all prepared while dancing to tunes provided by DJs from next door neighbours Ministry of Sound. It’s part of the three-day Sustainable Food Weekend which features a programme of informative, fun and exciting events – and all with a serious message about food sustainability.  Events include free seminars, workshops, classes and film screenings, with highlights including:

 -        Cooking classes covering pizza, pasta, gelato and ‘the best local fish you’ve never cooked’
 -        Workshops such as ‘How to compost’, ‘Urban farming’, ‘Sauerkraut Crowd and Jam Session’, ‘Breads makeover’ and ‘Save our Roots’
 -        A Smoothie Bike where pedal power creates fabulous smoothies made from leftovers
 -        Screenings including 2012 documentary More than Honey on honeybee colonies in California, Switzerland, China and Australia,
and Leonardo DiCaprio’s 2016 climate change documentary Before the Flood
