With many professionals finding their career under increasing pressure due to the tough economic climate, maintaining a work-life balance and devoting sufficient time to family commitments can be tough.
Becoming self-employed is often the ideal solution, offering flexibility, so that there is no need for the inevitable trade-off between family and business commitments.
For many, a franchised business is the best way to launch a new venture, providing a proven business idea, a structure and a support network that help to remove many of the uncertainties of starting up on your own.
It’s a career option that’s becoming increasingly popular, with more than half a million people working in the industry in 2011, according to the NatWest and the British Franchise Association (bfa) survey.
A new event will offer people all the advice, business opportunities and support they need to develop a career as a franchisee. The National Franchise Exhibition takes place on 24 & 25 February 2012 at the NEC, Birmingham, following the success of the well-established event in October each year.
Visitors can discuss prospects face to face with a range of franchise businesses covering a wide variety of sectors such as finance, food and drink, commercial cleaning, home improvement and leisure. These include Auditel, Big Little Sweet Shop, Daily Poppins, Dublcheck and Totally Clean Solutions.
Carly Miller, a franchisee with the exhibitor Creation Station, explains how the franchise fits around her family commitments:
“At first, I was unsure what to do about going back to work but then I looked at the possibility of buying a franchise. I realised it would be a brilliant way to earn money and have the freedom to work in a way that suits me and still have time to spend with my young daughter as she attends the classes with me.
“I’m really excited about the future as I am passionate about supporting parents and children within the community and love running my own successful and rewarding business.”
Vernon Hall was general manager of a company before joining commercial cleaning franchise Dublcheck. He had wanted to be his own boss for some time, so he visited a franchise exhibition. Vernon explains the benefits of being a franchisee:
“The great thing is while you are running your own business, you do not have to fend for yourself!”
Alongside the exhibitors are many exciting free features to provide visitors with a greater understanding of life as a franchisee and the help they need to build a career running their own franchised business successfully.
The conference within The National Franchise Exhibition enables visitors to find out everything they need to know about franchising, from where to start, who to talk to, where to find advice and which franchise would best suit them.
Visitors bringing their families to the event can keep them entertained at The Children’s Activity Centre. Run by the award-winning Creation Station, this free exploration class allows children to get creative along with a parent, while their partner takes the opportunity to discover more about franchising.
The National Franchise Exhibition is the only franchise exhibition in Birmingham to be supported by the British Franchise Association (bfa) and it only allows franchise companies that have met the Association’s code of ethics to exhibit. Visitors can have confidence in the franchise opportunities available, as they are an ethical entity within the UK market.
To register for The National Franchise Exhibition, call +44 (0)844 257 8668 or visit www.franchiseinfo.co.uk. Callers can purchase tickets by credit card for £8 each or £7 each for two or more in advance. Admission on the door is £15.
However visitors can gain free admission by using the promotional code FAMPR when registering at www.franchiseinfo.co.uk.
The National Franchise Exhibition is open from 10am each day, closing at 5pm on Friday 24 February and 4pm on Saturday 25 February 2012.
