Last year, Tim and Kerry Meek sold their house, quit their jobs and took their children, Amy and Ella, out of school to embark on a year-long family EdVenture. In LEARNING OUTDOORS WITH THE MEEK FAMILY, they provide 52 exciting outdoor adventures you can do with your own family, each of which can be fit into a weekend, all of which are based on their year travelling and learning outdoors.
LEARNING OUTDOORS WITH THE MEEK FAMILY shows that education does not always need to take place behind a desk, in a classroom or with a teacher.
Family time is just as important as school time, and these 52 ‘Ed-?ventures’ provide parents with a fantastic bank of ideas to support and enhance their
children’s formal schooling. Each exciting adventure can easily be fitted into a weekend.
Chapters include:
Buildings to See,
Places to Go,
Travel & Transport,
By the Water,
Country Life and Culture & Entertainment
and within each activity there is plenty of scope to help your children develop enquiring minds, including ideas on what to do before you get there, while you’re there and when you get back, plus tips, suggestions and ways of encouraging different ways to learn via reading, listening, visual, sensory and physical means.
Whether you’re visiting a wind farm or stepping on to a train, visiting an historical building or looking at a sculpture in your local park, LEARNING OUTDOORS WITH THE MEEK FAMILY provides all the educational stimulation you and your children need for some great Ed-?ventures in the open air.
TIM and KERRY MEEK, teachers from Nottingham, are just regular parents striving to bring up their two daughters, Amy (11) and Ella (9), as best they can. Their approach to parenting is one full of love and care, but one that is also deliberately punctuated with managed risk and age-appropriate challenge. They use a little less cotton wool to wrap up their children, and they search out and seize opportunities to enjoy outdoor quality family time. The Meek family has taken the school year 2014/15 out of formal education and they are travelling around Britain in a caravan in search of adventure.
Their previous book for Frances Lincoln is 100 Family Adventures. Check these links for more adventures:
