Who are the most romantic literary lovers of all time?

Feb 14 2021

You don’t need to be a book worm or a fan of romantic literature to know some of the most famous literary lovers of all time. My personal favourites are Francesca and Robert from The Bridges of Madison County that is a wonderful book by Robert James Waller beautifully adapted to the big screen by Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. I also love the couple from The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks (also a movie starring Ryan Gosling). Unsurprisingly, although the story may be a tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, who were created in the 16th century by William Shakespeare still embody the passion and true love we all wish to experience in our lifetimes. It was also great to see some more contemporary book lovers make the final list, such as life-long lovers Jack and Ennis from Brokeback Mountain as well as Anastasia and Christian from Fifty Shades of Grey.

Book of the week: Mona Lisa in New York

Feb 03 2021

Mona Lisa is undoubtedly the most famous painting in the world and has rarely left Paris for safety and security reasons after the epic theft that happened in 1911. An new children’s book Mona Lisa in New York out in March follows Mona Lisa as a tourist who experiences New York for the first time – finding art and inspiration in unexpected places. As a big fan of this iconic painting by my fellow Italian Leonardo I find this book published by Prestel fascinating even as an adult. It’s charmingly written and illustrated by artist Yevgenia Nayberg, an immigrant to New York herself who shows young readers the city she has fallen in love with. Cleverly portraying da Vinci’s iconic subject as a world-weary, know-it-all, Nayberg takes readers on a tour of New York – eating pizza in the Bronx, listening to jazz in Harlem and swimming at Brighton Beach.

Although we can’t travel at the moment, this delightful tale is the perfect way to take young readers on an imaginary journey, and encourage an appreciation of all kinds of art. A MUST-READ for children and parents alike.

How to find the best mobile deals for a child

Dec 23 2020

At some point, nowadays often much sooner than we might like or expect, our children start asking if they can have their own mobile phone. Some will come right out and ask, while others might make subtle hints, mentioning friends who have phones, and gentle enquiries as to when they might be allowed. As parent’s, it a tough balance, and also a much trickier decision than it used to be.

We don’t want our children to be left out, or teased at school. But, nor do we want them to be walking around with very expensive handsets, unsafe and unsure. You may also have worries about how consumed by their phone they might become (which, if we’re honest is something that many adults have personal experience of) and the pressures that come with social media, and always being in touch.
