The labouring task of Christmas shopping will be turned into useful energy to power 1000 lights on Midsummer Place’s (a shopping centre in Milton Keynes) 20 ft tree. Elf and Fitness will be on hand to get the shoppers to walk across special paving slabs that will transfer the kinetic energy in their feet to power the lights.
Every year, 7.7 billion kWh of fossil-fuel energy is used to power Christmas tree lights across the world – enough electricity to power London for three years.
