Going to see Lightopia London ‘A Christmas Fantasy’ at Crystal Palace Park was a thrilling and magical experience. As you walk through the vast park, you can really feel the warmth and comfort of a Christmassy and family environment. There are many wonderful light displays including mystical creatures: lions, unicorns, eagles with an addition of sound effects of the animals’ noises, giving you almost a sense of euphoria as you watch them glowing brightly around you.
Furthermore, what makes the experience all the more mesmerising, is the music box with Christmas tunes which accompanies you throughout the walk. As you move along into the gardens, there are stands where you can enjoy delicious hot food such as hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza, mulled wine, and refreshments for everyone. There are also stands which sell entertaining light toys for kids to play with during the event, such as light savers, spinning glowing sticks and transparent balloons.
At the entrance and at the exit of the park there are a few rides like bumper cars and the blizzard for kids, adults and teens to enjoy.
There is also a dazzling water show on the fountain in the middle of the park, which contains spectacular 3D projections over the jets of water. The projections show Santa Clause on a sleigh, and penguins waddling around the air. It almost seems like Santa with his reindeers is riding over to you with presents, but instead they end up disappearing into a thousand, floating water particles in the air.
The 40-metre-wide and 15-metre-tall water show over the lower lake is a spectacular visual feast, featuring the beloved Christmas imagery of a giant Santa, Rudolf, Christmas tree and snowflakes.
I would have really enjoyed to walk through a few more light displays as it all really felt magical and homely. Overall this was a memorable experience which I would definitely recommend for anyone, no matter what age, to experience with the family or a loved one.
Lightopia is the ultimate neon winter wonderland showcasing immersive, multi-sensory interactive light and lantern installations as well as a London first spectacular festive water show, ready to transport you to a fantastical Christmas experience like no other. Not only it is magical, but at the same time Lightopia is romantic and fairytale – like but it really sparks back the joy and warm feeling of Christmas!
Other Lightopia highlights include: ‘The Wonders of the Dragon’, a breath-taking light dragon who dramatically breathes ‘fire’, lighting up the surrounding trees and crystals; ‘The Magical Forest’, a fantasy world of mythical winged creatures; the enchanting and organic ‘Land of Fairy Literature’, ‘Earth Flower’ and ‘Forest Mushroom’; the spooky and wonky world of the ‘Haunted Road’ and of course the ultimate ‘Christmas’ installation of giant snowmen, baubles and sugar canes.
