Restaurant review: Frankie & Benny’s at The Strand

Frankie & Benny’s, located at The Strand in London, is a spot worth considering if you’re in the mood for a meal with a mix of American and Italian flavours before going to a West End show. But make sure you book ahead. While the food is decent, the prices might leave you feeling a bit stretched, especially considering its touristy location.

The menu offers a variety of options, from classic Italian dishes to American-style burgers and grilled meats. For instance, I tried the New Yorker Calzone, which was cheesy and crispy, filled with bacon, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, and Napoletana sauce. It was served with a dressed salad, which was a nice touch. My friend Marina opted for the Classic Cheese beef burger, which came with Monterey Jack cheese, mayo, and lettuce. As for starters, we shared Onion Rings and Sweet Potato Fries, which were enjoyable.

We were really full  after having our main courses and starters but the New York Cheesecake for £6.80 served with vanilla ice cream and Salted Caramel Sauce looked amazing as it ‘walked’ past to some other guest so we decided to share one. It was perfect, moist, not overly sweet.

However, the service was nothing to write home about. Our waitress seemed more concerned about rushing off than assisting us, which was a bit disappointing. Additionally, considering the prices, we expected a bit more from the overall dining experience.

The restaurant’s ambience has a classic diner feel, reminiscent of an American eatery, which I totally adored. The extensive menu caters to various dietary preferences, with options for vegans, vegetarians, and those seeking lighter choices. While the dessert menu offers tempting treats like the cookie monster freak-shake, the prices might make you think twice about indulging.

Frankie & Benny’s at The Strand is a decent choice for a meal, particularly if you’re craving a mix of Italian and American flavours. However, be prepared to pay a bit more than you might expect, and don’t set your expectations too high for the service. It’s a convenient spot, especially for families with kids, but there are certainly better options available in the area if you’re willing to explore.
