Restaurant review: ASK Italian at The O2, Greenwich Peninsula

On my birthday a few weeks ago, my fabulous friend Antonella and I decided to treat ourselves to a delightful dining adventure at ASK Italian at The O2, Peninsula Square, London, after some retail therapy at the Outlet. Located in the heart of Greenwich’s buzzing entertainment hub, this modern Italian gem offers a perfect blend of delicious food and a vibrant atmosphere.

Location and Atmosphere

Located within The O2, ASK Italian is the ideal spot for a pre-show dinner, a post-shopping meal, or just a casual catch-up with friends. The vibe was just right – not too hectic, not too quiet, though I bet it gets pretty lively when there’s a show on. The super-friendly staff were incredibly accommodating, even with our mountain of shopping bags and families with prams. Talk about service with a smile!

The Menu

ASK Italian’s menu is a playground of authentic Italian flavours, crafted by the genius chef Theo Randall. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing Aperol spritz, a tasty antipasto sharing board, or some fresh, flavourful pasta, you’re in for a treat. And let’s not forget the variety of meat-free options and scrumptious pizzas!

Our Culinary Adventure

We kicked off our feast with some veggie arancini – a fun and tasty twist featuring beetroot and other colourful veggies. Then, we dived into a sea bass dish that was cooked to absolute perfection, served with fresh vegetables and warm, freshly made bread. The white pizza that followed was equally delightful, showcasing the kitchen’s knack for balancing flavours. We topped off our meal with a luscious tarte au citron and creamy ice cream, leaving us floating on a cloud of culinary bliss.

Highlights

The sea bass and bread were the stars of the show – the fish was cooked to perfection and the bread was wonderfully fresh. The veggie arancini added a unique and flavourful kick to our meal. The menu is a treasure trove of both classic and innovative dishes. Pizzas range from the trusty margherita and four cheeses to more adventurous options like slow-cooked lamb shoulder with fontal cheese and a ‘Super Green’ vegan pizza topped with baby kale and asparagus. Yum!

Value for Money

ASK Italian is a wallet-friendly wonder, especially for its prime location. Dishes like the sea bass al forno, priced under £15, come with generous sides like roast potatoes, broccoli, and creamy sauces – perfect for families looking to dine before a gig, catch a film at Cineworld, or refuel after bowling at Hollywood Bowl.

ASK Italian at The O2 was a delightful surprise, offering a fantastic dining experience that mixes authentic Italian cuisine with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re gearing up for a show, unwinding after shopping, or just craving a cosy dinner with friends, this restaurant is a must-visit. The thoughtful menu, paired with top-notch service and a lively setting, makes ASK Italian a standout choice in Greenwich.

So, the next time you’re at The O2, pop into ASK Italian for a meal that promises to tickle your taste buds and leave you with a big, happy smile.
