Family-Friendly Areas in London
There are plenty of areas to consider so it’s important you do a lot of research before deciding on a place. Here are five places to consider:
Richmond

If you’re searching for a family-friendly area, then Richmond could appear in your searches time and time again. It is located in the South West of London and is one of the city’s most affluent residential areas.
Richmond is home to two of the greenest areas in London, Kew Gardens and Richmond Park, which provide a very rural feel within the city. There is a certain sense of tranquillity to the area which cannot be found in my areas in London.
The affluence and wide-open spaces make it an area that’s very appealing to families looking to settle here, with it only taking half hour to get to the centre of London too. It’s also worth noting that Richmond has one of the lowest crime rates in London, something families look for in an area for sure.
Willesden Green
If you prefer an area with personality and mismatch shops, then Willesden Green could be the place for you and your family. This London suburb has an abundance of large period properties lining the streets, perfect for families of all sizes.
This area is very diverse, offering a range of shops from traditional bakers and butchers to Portuguese food stores and African fabric shops. There’s also a range of well-known chain stores too.
Situated close to Queen’s Park, Gladstone Park and Kensal Green it’s a great area for families who like to get out and enjoy green spaces. It also makes for the perfect commuting spot with it being less than 15 minutes to the centre on the Jubilee line.
There are plenty of schooling options around too, with both public and private schools available just outside the area in places such as Kilburn, Hampstead and Highgate.
Crystal Palace
If your children are into scenic parks and dinosaurs, then Crystal Palace could be a great option to live in. Most of the area is occupied by a beautiful park, filled with other families enjoying the space. The park has a parade of dinosaur statues, outdoor mazes, a boating park and a skate park so there’s plenty for all ages to enjoy.
If your family are particularly into sports, then there’s a national sports centre also in the area that has regular sporting events.
Crystal Palace is not only a really scenic area to live in, but it’s also one of the best value-for-money places to live in London with below-average London crime rates too of just 106.4 (per 1,000 residents).
Battersea
Battersea should also be considered a great option for families to live in. With a huge 2200 acres of Battersea Park to enjoy, you could be sure to have a fabulous summer with the children there. Home to a boating lake, children’s zoo, playgrounds, bandstands, cafes and art galleries all available to enjoy.
South bank of the Thames, Battersea has become one of the city’s favourite neighbourhoods to live in, with London’s affluent areas Kensington and Chelsea nearby, Battersea mimics a similar feeling just without the financial hang-ups.
In Battersea, you could expect to see a range of housing options, from high-end townhouses to more affordable apartments which could be perfect for young families starting out. Transport links are also a bonus to this area, with Clapham Junction located in Battersea, getting around the city will be easy for you.
It’s also home to a pretty famous animal shelter if you’re looking to add additions to your family!
Moving to a family-friendly area in London…
The search for a new family home can be daunting, but your move to London shouldn’t be whatever you decide on. Ideally, you want an area with plenty of open space with good schools close by, but you also want to consider what you enjoy doing as a family to help minimise the choices to suit your needs.
