Taking kids to the top of the Shard

Ahead of Father’s Day, a team of London Mums, dads and the kids club attended an exclusive dad’s day out at The View from The Shard, London’s most exciting attraction enjoying exclusive access to the city’s highest viewing platform.

While the parents indulged in a luxury champagne breakfast 800ft above the capital, the children were enjoying the sweeping panoramic views.

London Mum Amy du Rand, Mummy to Leon and Jack, attended the event and sent us her views on one of London’s most expensive but yet extraordinary attractions.

In the centre of London, casting a majestic shadow over Bermondsey and visible for over 40 miles on a clear day stands Europe’s tallest building – The Shard. During the day the views are stunning and watching London bustle around from on high, is incredible – trains coming and going, the Thames rolling in and out and a birds eye view of London’s most famous landmarks laid out before you. At night, the Shard lights up the skyline and acts like a beacon. On one of the year’s sunniest days we were lucky enough to be invited along to a ‘Father’s Day’ event to celebrate the new “Kids go Free” promotion during half term.

Speeding up to level 69 and the indoor viewing platform in what can only be described as the smoothest lift ride in the world, we were greeted with first rate coffee any serious barista would be proud of and fab fresh croissants and delicious fruit sticks. With a 360 degree vantagepoint of this incredible capital city there is nothing that quite prepares you for how amazing the view is.

Our Guide, Simon, welcomed us and pointed out some of the more familiar sites and then read “Romeo’s View from the Shard” to the assembled children – a true story of how an urban fox found his way up to the 72nd floor and lived the life of riley (and currently holds somewhat legendary status and a very special place in the souvenir shop!). It’s a great story and every child went home with his own Romeo toy and book – a fabulous reminder of a fabulous morning!

My 3.5 year old son utterly loved his experience of being “as high as the clouds are mummy”…and I highly recommend it to any Mums..the staff are fab, the visitor experience is brilliant and its a real thrill to see London from such an incredible vantage point.

Shard

As a Londoner this was my first time to the Shard and I can’t wait to go back..perhaps at night…without the kids…and with a glass of champagne in my hand to watch the hustle and bustle calm down and night settle over this beloved city!
