If you have gluten intolerance these days it isn’t a big deal as you can eat in most restaurants in London and still find delicious meals. One of my personal favourite places is the Hard Rock cafe’ restaurant. It’s not just the quality of the food, good value for money, the amazing central location next to Hyde Park and Piccadilly, right in the heart of the Capital, but it’s the atmosphere that I really enjoy with my food when I am there. I am a big hard rock fan and absolutely love watching the incredible memorabilia on display while listening to my favourite music and watching the best rock videos of all times.
Hard Rock Cafe is well known for being the home of the UK’s original American menu but it has now achieved gluten-free (GF) accreditation from Coeliac UK for its special Gluten-Free Menu, for fans requiring a gluten-free diet. I am neither coeliac nor wheat intolerant but I was keen to try the new menu.
The Hard Rock Cafe new Gluten Free Menu features: Potato Skins, Classic Nachos, Wings, Cobb Salad, Grilled Chicken and Arugula Salad, Grilled Norwegian Salmon, Cowboy Rib Eye, New York Strip Steak, Hickory Smoked Ribs, Original Legendary Burger, Classic Burger, Fresh Vegetable Sandwich, The Big Cheeseburger, Mushroom & Swiss Burger, Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Sides, Ice Cream, Hot Fudge Brownie / Sinful Fudge Sundae, Mini Crème Brulee.
I went for for the Original Legendary Burger as I read amazing reviews about it. Indeed it didn’t disappoint me. There’s no comparison with the fast food burgers at all. This was proper quality meat presented in a gluten free wholemeal bun. With its 1200+ calories it was very filling and I skipped dinner but it was worth it.
The perk after lunch
With every lunch or dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe’ you receive a free ticket to the Vault at the Hard Rock Cafe’, one of my favourite discoveries this Christmas in London, located in the old Coutts Bank (underneath the Hard Rock Cafe’ shop). The Vault is what it says in the tin, i.e. a vault once used by the Queen to keep precious things including Lady D wedding dress before the ceremony, which has been turned into a safe for some of the best and most famous items that once belonged to rock stars. Among some of the most stunning guitars in the world, you can see (and touch) Elvis Presley’s red coat
The Vault is still housing the first ever piece of memorabilia donated to the Hard Rock Cafe, Eric Clapton’s Lead II Fender, originally donated to reserve a space at the busy bar, the London Cafe is as charming and authentic now as it was 40 years ago. You will find many of the original serving staff still work the floor here today too! The Cafe is also as famous as ever around town for attracting the best rock stars down for a burger and the occasional “jamming session”. The Vault is often used for interviews with rocks stars when they come to London for concerts.
The Vault is open 7 days a week from 11:30am til 9pm – be sure to get your ticket and drop by! Unmissable!
At the back of the main restaurant there’s a gem of a bar, the Back Room Bar also part of the Hard Rock Cafe’. It used to be the old shop that has now turned into a bar where you can eat the best pizza in London. Honestly, this is the best kept secret in town! The pizza is crispy and the ingredients are so fresh that if you close your eyes you might for a moment think you are in Italy. The bar looks a bit scruffy at first, but the more you stay there the more you come to appreciate the posters and hard rock memorabilia which hang from the walls.
I hope I have given you some new ideas. And if you stay in London this Christmas enjoy it as this year is at its best!
