A must-see London attraction, Tower Bridge invites visitors to step inside London’s defining landmark and explore its iconic structure, current exhibitions and magnificent Victorian Engine Rooms.
Tower Bridge regularly hosts family activities free with entry which are available throughout the day. Open to children of all ages but are particularly appropriate for those aged 6 to 10, drop in and join in on the fun. The next family activities are back Tuesday 15 and Saturday 19 February.
Visitors can discover how and why the Bridge came into existence through films and animations in the Towers, before moving to the Bridge’s high-level walkways, 42 metres above the River Thames, to admire spectacular panoramic views across London. Displays across the Bridge explore the lives of some of the extraordinary people who built and ran the Bridge – from the coal stokers and Bridge drivers and even the divers who helped build the foundations on which the Bridge sits.
The attraction also includes entry to the atmospheric Engine Rooms, which explains the original workings of the Bridge and houses the magnificent coal boilers and steam engines that have been meticulously maintained. An animation showing a unique view of the Bridge’s bascules being raised is certainly an additional highlight here.
Another of London’s best-loved attractions is The Monument. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren to commemorate the Great Fire of London that devastated the City of London in 1666, it stands at 202 feet high and is the tallest isolated stone column in the world. Today, visitors can climb 311 steps to the top of this historic landmark to take in fantastic 360 degree views of London.
The timings of the Tower Bridge family activities are 10am-4pm.
