Why Every Family Needs to Visit Ras al-Khaimah this year

Ras al-Khaimah has been dubbed the ‘Rising Emirate’ thanks to its status as the new jewel in the Emirates crown. This ancient land is now attracting huge investment, workers are flocking to take advantage of huge opportunities and holidaymakers are enjoying the wealth of affordable luxury resorts available.   While the weather reaches high temperatures in the summer, it’s also not uncommon to see snow in the mountains in wintertime. In fact, it is this that makes Ras al-Khaimah the perfect winter sun holiday resort – with an average of 27°C in December – it’s the ideal destination to escape the gloom of the UK around this time of year. The travel experts at Destination2 have outlined why we need to look into visiting Ras al-Khaimah in 2017.

Focus on family fun

From water parks to kids’ clubs, there is no shortage of activities for children. The widely acclaimed Sea Wings adventure takes you up on a luxury seaplane to view the waters, mountains and desert from the skies. This summer 2017, kids can go free on Sea Wings rides – just remember to bring your camera to snap the jaw dropping sights!

Ras al-Khaimah is the new Dubai

If the over wrought glitz of Dubai isn’t your bag, it might well be worth checking out this more sedate emirate. Five star hotels like the Banyan Tree and Hilton Hotels have opened and this sector is on the rise. The area offers visitors a more authentic “Arabian” experience without compromising on the extremely high standards in service and accommodation set by Dubai.

Affordability

Ras al-Khaimah is the more affordable little brother to Dubai, with developers focusing on activities, hotels and restaurants being as accessible to every type of holidaymaker. As such, families are flocking from all over the world to take advantage of a Dubai-style holiday without the Dubai-style price tag.

Best beaches in the whole of the UAE

It is widely agreed that Ras al-Khaimah has the best stretch of coastline in the country. Pristine beaches, crystal clear waters and world-class resorts make a trip here the perfect choice for winter sun holidays for families with young children, as well as anyone wanting to experience a lazy, luxurious break in the warmth.

Tranquility

Ras al-Khaimah is very peaceful – and really nurtures its family-friendly vibe by have calm beaches, quiet hotels and generally a laid-back charm in all of its restaurants, cafes and activity centres.

Variety

Ras al-Khaimah is in the middle of creating the image of an everyman destination – a place where you can go for weddings, honeymoons, wellness breaks and adventure holidays, as well as the perfect family holiday and luxury break. It takes just under seven hours to reach the Middle East from the UK – an incredibly short amount of time to experience a completely different way of life.

Sights

Where Dubai has made its name with the world’s biggest/tallest/most expensive buildings, Ras al-Khaimah relies on its rich heritage and natural beauty to wow its visitors. Head to Sheba’s palace, the 16th century Dhayah Fort, and take in (and even sand board down?!) the stunning sand dunes which are the perfect location to see the vast blanket of stars above you as the sun sets.

Entertainment

Ras al-Khaimah already has an established water sports scene, with activities like jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing and scuba diving available to indulge in up and down the 64km of coastline. There are also water parks (check out the incredible Iceland Water Park) and theme parks available for families to enjoy. Grown ups are recommended to book in a Bedouin camp excursion which will take you out into the desert, provide you with a traditional Arabic barbecue, belly dancers, sufi dancers and camel riding – the perfect accompaniment to watching the sun go down beneath the horizon.
