London is probably the best city in the world in terms of activities for families and children including lots of free activities and events. We list here lots of initiatives that we believe London Mums and their children from babies to teenagers would enjoy especially at the most entertaining places such as the Science Museum, The V&A, Kew Gardens, Kensington Palace, Hyde Park, Richmond Park, Greenwich, West End shows, the London Eye, the London Aquarium, Kingston upon Thames, Chelsea, SouthBank and so much more.

London Mums’ playgroup with a twist

Our popular London Mums playgroup in Putney is back this September 2012 with a twist. Over the years, London Mums have met up in Putney at Eddie Catz and organised all sorts of entertainment for the kids in a relaxed environment over a tea and a chat. A venue such Eddie Catz provides enough entertainment on its own right with jungle mazes, playframes and lots of video games for kids.

Amazingly, we received the best response from kids when we started our own ART SESSIONS.

Here came the idea for a playgroup with a twist:

From this September 2012 mums with young kids as well as teenagers can come along and learn how to draw and paint with a professional artist while young children enjoy exploring the Eddie Catz world (unless they want to also join in).

At the end of the course (before Christmas) we will showcase our work in a special exhibition at Eddie Catz and all attendees will be awarded a certificate by Italian artist Giovanna Bindi.

The programme for the autumn/winter 2012 term is as follow:

1) We will learn how to visualise and scale objects for transfer on to paper and canvas using pastels and watercolour.

2) Methods:

a) Still Life: sketch on paper, learning prospective and proportions.

The basics of light and shadows by using pastels.

b) Watercolour: using shading techniques to add volume. Observing light and shadows is important at this stage to add a third dimension.

c) Acrylic and Oil: an opportunity to discover the density of colours and how to create new colours to give volume to shapes demonstrating the real effects of painting on canvas.

A Certificate will also be awarded on completion signed by the artist.

The 2012 dates are:

September 24

October 1 / 8/ 15 / 22

November 12 / 19/ 26

December 3

Time: 4-5pm

How much: DROP IN SESSION: £8 per mum (children go FREE) or TEENAGER per session. The total cost for the art course is £63 instead of £72 (for 9 sessions from September to December 2012) if paid in advance. You can choose to pay as you go as well at the drop in rate of £8 (instead of £7 per session if you book for the full term) but we recommend to book the whole course if you also want to receive a certificate. We only have only 10 spaces available so if you are interested please register as soon as possible by emailing
