Almost 100,000 parents across the country will find out either on 1st March or soon after whether they have secured a place for their child in the school of their choice. In the London region, there are likely to be more upset and unhappy parents than most areas of the country, given the shortage of places for infant class children i.e. those joining the school at reception stage.

Parents with children suffering from dyslexia and other learning difficulties are right to be angry with MP Graham Stringer with his unqualified remarks about dyslexia and dismissing it as 'cruel fiction which leads to crime'. Whilst it may be expedient to blame crime on dyslexia it does nothing to explain how this condition occurs in the first place.

The power of motherhood

I recently had a focus group with several London Mums about the pros and cons of motherhood. Specifically, we discussed how becoming a mother both boosts and challenges our lives. We wondered where mums get their physical and mental energy, their ability to multitask and motivation. We investigated the medical aspects of motherhood and we found out that it is now scientifically proven that pregnancy and child rearing enhance mental capabilities.
