History In Action – Multi-Period Event at Arundel Castle 26 – 28 August 2017

Arundel Castle in West Sussex is set to take visitors on a thrilling journey through the centuries this August Bank Holiday weekend (26-28 August), as part of its History In Action Multi-Period event.

Set on the Lower Lawns of Arundel Castle the tented encampments of five renowned living history groups, and many individual historical reenactors will reflect on more than 12,000 years of local and Castle history with craft, costume, and combat displays.

This is a great opportunity for visitors to meet Roman Gladiators, Norman Crusaders, 14th and 15th century Knights, Georgian Smugglers and Victorian street dwellers, to name but a few of the wide range of historical characters and displays showcased over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Set within the upper grounds of Arundel Castle these family friendly History Days will be an opportunity to meet a variety of historical characters, including a Knight, Pirate and Medieval Surgeon. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a variety of have a-go activities, such as archery and fencing. Certain days will also include falconry, face painter and an ancient story teller.

The Loop

The Loop is a brand-new recycling initiative at Sea Life Brighton! The installation aims to educate visitors about the recycling process – creating an understanding of the entire recycling ‘loop’. The Loop will encourage every person who purchases a bottled drink from Sea Life Brighton to responsibly recycle their waste. The device will recycle 20,000 plastic bottles each year, the equivalent of what Sea Life Brighton sells annually. For each bottle that is recycled, Coca-Cola Great Britain will donate 5p to the Sea Life Trust.

Medieval Tournament 19 – 20 August 2017

The Knights, Squires, and Men-at-Arms of Raven Tor Living History Group will meet in a Medieval Foot Tournament on the upper lawns of Arundel Castle. With competitions using a variety of weapons, the free-style fighting of the combatants will be the nearest reproduction of tournament combat seen outside of the 15th century. With Story Teller, falconry display, have-a-go-archery and a tented encampment of crafts and displays, there is plenty to see and experience over the weekend.
